Terms

A list of commonly used terms:

  • Post: a single message by a user within a chain of messages (thread)
  • Thread: a logical chain of message that together form a discussion topic
  • Forum: an area where threads that are common in nature, content or structure can be grouped together (e.g.: the Recruiters forum will hold all threads with job openings). Forums can be grouped themselves in forum categories. Sometimes also used to refer to the site as a whole e.g.: Baanboard forum.
  • Forum category: a group of forums that are organized and displayed together (e.g.: all Quick Support forums. Forum categories can be nested into sublevels.
  • Search section: the site's search feature. Does not display content for which a user does not have permission to view. http://www.baanboard.com/baanboard/search.php?
  • New Posts section: the site's what's new feature. Allows users to quickly see which new posts/threads have been made since his/her last visit. Does not display content for which a user does not have permission to view. http://www.baanboard.com/baanboard/search.php?do=getnew
  • Archive section: the site's text based archive (PDA). Allows for low-bandwith browsing of site content or typically allows read-only access from mobile devices. Does not display content for which a user does not have permission to view. http://www.baanboard.com/baanboard/archive/index.php/
